Serious warning to all sheep visiting forest areas in Canada

We have received this warning, from Alison Cameron, for all sheep visiting forest areas of Canada.

Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, in the National Parks and forests in Canada, the Fish and Wildlife Branch is advising hikers, fishermen and any persons using the out of doors in a recreational or work related function to take extra precautions while working in the field.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing to give advance warning to any bears that might be close by so as not to take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out of doors to carry pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the lookout for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces.

Black bear feces is smaller and
contains lots of berries and squirrel fur.
Grizzly bear feces has bells in it and smells of pepper.

  1. We'd be glad to have any of the sheep visit their Welsh cousins in the wilds of Colorado. We have livestock protection dogs to keep them safe from predators like bears and mountain lions.
