Victoria Jane learns to Curl on Vancouver Island in Canada

On Thursday, 27th January, 2011 I arrived in Victoria, B C , Canada, a very long journey starting from my home in Harburn, Northumberland on the 12th January.

I was taken out of my snug little crib at the mail box on the way to the curling club, where I was admired and promised to have my photo taken on Barb Hadley's digital camera next Thursday.

Imagine my surprise when I woke up on Sunday afternoon to the sound of Nothumbrian Small Pipes, familiar tunes like Rothbury Hills, College Valley Hunt, Sweet Hesleyside, and many more.

Seven pipers were together and Gordon Pollock made me jump onto a music stand with the other six pipers behind me to take a digital photo to email imediately to my home in Hartburn

The next day my namesake Jane and Helen took me on the Victoria Clipper ferry 21/2 hour from Victoria to Seattle.

U S A. to a concert to hear a most talented violinist David Garrett.

David transposed classical music to rock and present day modern beat.

We got back to Victoria yesterday morning on the same ferry.

I was excited about going back to the curling club to have my picture taken.

I was amazed to see how big the Curling Stones were! This is a sport invented in Scotland. When the Scots emigrated to Canada, they found it was a great place to play because in some places, the winters are unbelievably cold.

Here is Great Aunty Jane from Victoria, teaching me how to curl.

Her friend, Barb Hadley, had found a broom and curling stone just my size.

I had a terrific time and was fussed over by many of the curlers who wished me God Speed on my journey.
